Inclusion should not be an afterthought—it should be embedded in the very design of our technologies. With SafeDrive4Deaf, my goal was to turn a moment of silence into a signal of safety. Everyone deserves to drive with confidence and dignity, and I believe innovation is at its best when it serves the voices we don’t always hear.

Zayen Ahmed

Zayen Ahmed is a passionate innovator and accessibility advocate focused on creating inclusive technology solutions that directly improve the lives of persons with disabilities. With a strong background in engineering and a deep commitment to social impact, Zayen is the visionary behind SafeDrive4Deaf—a cutting-edge safety system designed to make driving more accessible and secure for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

Motivated by a desire to bridge the gap in auditory awareness for deaf drivers, Zayen developed SafeDrive4Deaf to detect critical emergency sounds like sirens and train barriers and convert them into clear, real-time visual alerts. His work has been shaped by extensive user research, technical experimentation, and community collaboration to ensure the solution addresses the real-world challenges faced by deaf drivers. His innovation was honored with the Mada Innovation Award in 2023 and received development funding from the Mada Innovation Program, which helped bring the concept to market. Through his work, Zayen is not only contributing to road safety but also reshaping the conversation around inclusive transportation—demonstrating that thoughtful design can create equitable experiences for all users, regardless of their hearing ability.
