Assistive Technology Professional Certification in Arabic

A Mada Center Initiative

In partnership with the Society for Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology in North America (RESNA), the world’s leading and most recognized Assistive Technology (AT) professional organization, Mada is offering an accredited certification in AT in the Arabic language for the first time globally. This initiative comes as part of Mada’s strategy to enrich innovation and capacity building in the Arabic language around the world.

Throughout the project, a team of experts from Mada worked diligently over the course of a full year to localize this international test based on solid scientific foundations. The skill sharing that success test takers will benefit from will have a tremendous impact on persons with disabilities in their pursuit to achieve equality for all sectors and segments of society. For those that pass the exam, they will also receive a RESNA ATP certificate that will enable them to analyze the needs of persons with disabilities in assistive technology. assist them in selecting the appropriate tools based on their needs and provide training on their use. The test includes 200 multiple-choice questions to test proficiency in a wide range of assistive technology practices for people with disabilities. This four-hour test is conducted at Prometric test centers in Qatar and around the world, a list of which is available online.

Why is taking the Arabic ATP Certification Exam important?

Building capacity in Assistive Technology in the Arabic language is a key component of providing the necessary expertise to better empower people with disabilities through such technologies, and ultimately create a more accessible ecosystem. As such, the Mada Center spearheaded this initiative to create an Arabic version of RESNA’s ATP Exam. Professionals that successfully complete the Exam will be pioneers in the field of Arabic AT and will be eligible to act as trainers of the RESNA ATP fundamentals course, which Mada is working to make available in 2019.

What is RESNA?

RESNA, the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America, is the premier professional organization dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of people with disabilities through increasing access to technology solutions. RESNA advances the field by offering certification, continuing education, and professional development; developing assistive technology standards; promoting research and public policy; and sponsoring forums for the exchange of information and ideas to meet the needs of our multidisciplinary constituency.

How to apply for the Arabic ATP Certification Exam?

All candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria found on the Mada website. Upon application submission, RESNA Certification staff will initiate the applicant review process. If any additional information or documentation is needed, you will be contacted via email and phone with instructions on how to proceed. Please allow up to 3 weeks for the approval process.

How much does it cost to take the Arabic ATP Certification Exam?

The Mada Center and RESNA are currently running a pilot of the Arabic ATP Certification Exam with 50 candidates. The cost for taking the exam for these candidates, should they meet eligibility requirements, is fully subsidized by the Mada Center. Exam spots are granted on a first come first serve basis.
